Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) may be over but Medicare Open Enrollment Period (OEP) is back starting January 1st 2024. Learn what you can & cannot do during Medicare OEP.
During Medicare OEP, individuals enrolled in MA plans as of January 1 will have a one-time opportunity to do the following:
Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan.
Drop their current Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare.
If returning to Original Medicare, enroll in a stand-alone Part D Prescription Drug Plan
Elections made during Medicare OEP take effect on the 1st of the month following receipt of enrollment request.
Please note: MA OEP DOES NOT allow an individual enrolled in Original Medicare to join a MA plan. Furthermore, it doesn’t allow for Part D changes for individuals enrolled in Original Medicare. Likewise, OEP isn’t an option for those enrolled in Medicare Savings Accounts or other Medicare health plan types, including cost plans or PACE.
